Pangasinan State University Lingayen Campus undertook a strategic benchmarking initiative to learn from the successful IT practices of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) La Union, last July 19, 2024.
A delegation led by Dr. Cristeta G. Tolentino, Dean of the College of Computing Sciences, along with the department chairpersons, Dr. Carla Carmela P. Ramos (IT) and Dr. Ma. Sheryl Sunga (CS), visited DMMMSU’s Mid and South La Union Campuses. They conducted in-depth interviews and analyses to identify best practices in IT and Computer Science programs that could be adapted to enhance PSU LC’s operations.
The PSU LC Team received a warm welcome from DMMMSU leadership, including MLUC Chancellor Dr. Eduardo C. Corpuz, SLUC Chancellor Dr. Joanne C. Rivera, CIT Dean Dr. Alvin R. Malicdem, and CCS Dean Prof. Enrico G. Dacanay. Together with DMMMSU faculty and staff, they fostered a spirit of collaboration and shared purpose.
DMMMSU has established itself as a leading Center of Development in IT through its robust curriculum and excellence in research, education, and industry partnerships. Both PSU and DMMMSU share a commitment to producing highly skilled IT and CS graduates, fostering innovation, and driving digital transformation within the community.
Dr. Tolentino stated, “Through this benchmarking endeavor, we aim to elevate the standards of IT and CS education at PSU Lingayen Campus. By learning from DMMMSU’s proven practices, we aspire to cultivate a dynamic and innovative learning environment that empowers our students to become globally competitive IT and CS professionals.”
The benchmarking process yielded significant benefits for PSU, providing valuable insights and pinpointing areas for improvement. The collaboration with DMMMSU strengthened PSU’s commitment to ongoing enhancement and academic excellence.
“By benchmarking DMMMSU’s IT infrastructure, we aim to identify gaps and opportunities to enhance our own technological capabilities, thereby providing our students with a state-of-the-art learning environment.” Dr. Ramos said.
Dr. Sunga also shared that their participation in this initiative allows them to gain valuable insights into curriculum design and delivery. By studying DMMMSU’s successful CS programs, they can strengthen their own curriculum to better prepare our graduates for the industry.
This activity directly contributes to the achievement of UN SDGs 4 and 17.
